Catalina Noosa Wedding Film

Catalina Noosa is a 20-metre catamaran on the Noosa River, so the wedding is on the water.

The ceremony. Vows are made on board, on the deck, as the boat sits or cruises.

Portraits. In my film here, the couple stands in silhouette at sunset with the sun low over the water and a peak on the horizon. The river at sunset is the portrait location.

The reception. Cocktails and dinner are served on board, and the boat can take guests to nearby venues by water.

Couples choose a floating venue for the sense of occasion: the river, the sunset and the feeling of leaving the shore for a few hours. It suits a celebration where the setting itself is the experience.

Filming on a moving boat means there is less room and the light changes constantly, so I record audio separately, because water and engine noise get into everything. The vessel cruises the river toward Lake Cooroibah for the sunset, and sunset times shift with the season, so check yours. Ask the crew about power, access and where the boat stops, and whether drones can be flown over the river.

Filming on a boat has its own rhythm: there is less space and more movement, so I will talk through the plan with the venue and keep my equipment quiet and compact. Sunset on the river is the highlight, so we will plan the timeline so you are on the water when the light is at its best.
