How to choose a wedding videographer in Brisbane

Published October 2026 · Sean Harman

To choose a wedding videographer in Brisbane, watch two or three full films (not just a highlight reel), confirm exactly who will film and edit your day, ask how they record audio, check the delivery time and what you receive, and make sure they have filmed somewhere like your venue. Then compare packages by what is included, not by price alone.

Here are the twelve questions I would ask, with my own answers so you can compare.

1. Can I watch a full film, not just a highlight reel?

A short reel shows the best three minutes of a filmmaker's year. A full film shows how they handle a whole day. Ask for two or three complete films from different venues. You can watch 73 wedding films in my portfolio.

2. Who will actually film my wedding?

Some studios book several weddings on the same day and send whoever is free. Ask for the name of the person who will be at your ceremony and whether they also edit. I am a one-person studio: the person you plan with films your day and edits your film.

3. Have you filmed at my venue, or somewhere similar?

Knowing where the light falls at 4pm saves time on the day. I have filmed at 58+ venues across South East Queensland and Northern NSW, and they are all listed in the SEQ wedding guide.

4. How do you record audio?

Vows and speeches are the part of a wedding you cannot redo. Ask whether they use dedicated recorders and lapel microphones or rely on the camera's own microphone. At least three cameras and four audio devices come to every wedding I film.

5. What happens if equipment fails?

Ask about backup cameras and how footage is stored. Every camera I use records to dual memory cards, so a single card failure does not lose a moment.

6. What is included, and how long is the final film?

Get the coverage hours, the length of the highlight film and any extras in writing. My packages include 7 to 8 hours of coverage and a highlights film of up to 5 or 7 minutes, depending on the package. The 2026 price list lists every inclusion.

7. How long until I receive my film, and in what format?

Delivery times vary widely across the industry, from a few weeks to several months, so ask for a number and get it in writing. Mine typically take 4 to 8 weeks and arrive by express cloud delivery. Ask about resolution too: 4K is included in my Your Story and Your Legacy packages.

8. Who handles music licensing?

Most popular songs cannot be shared publicly without a licence. Ask whether licensed music is included and whether you can suggest tracks. I license music through Musicbed, Artlist and Audiio, and I can find songs you love or something that fits.

9. How do you work with my photographer?

Your photo and video team should work as one. I contact your photographer before the wedding if we have not worked together, and talk through the run sheet.

10. What is your plan if it rains?

Ask how they protect equipment and how they approach an indoor ceremony. Professional-grade equipment copes with a little rain, and rain films have a mood of their own. See my guide to planning a wet-weather wedding in South East Queensland.

11. What does it cost, and what is extra?

Ask for a full price list, not just a starting price. Packages start at $2,500 plus GST. Common extras are an additional videographer, drone footage and live streaming. For a wider picture, read how much a wedding videographer costs in Brisbane.

12. Will I feel comfortable with you around?

You will spend the whole day with this person. Meet them first, by video call if needed. The compliment I hear most is that couples forgot I was even there, because I stay in the background and let the day unfold.

Red flags to watch for

  • Only highlight reels available, no full films.
  • A vague answer about who will film your wedding.
  • No clear delivery date or format.
  • Nothing in writing about what is included.
